Station Pointers
The station pointer is an instrument that calculates the ship’s position.
Starting from measurement of three earth points taken with the sextant, the sailor can establish his position on the nautical chart.
The 3-radial arm station pointer was invented in 1780.
Along with the observation of three earth points by means of the sextant, it allowed to mark these angles on the chart with a precision of 1/20 of a degree.
